The Throne - “New Day”
Did you really think a new (half) Kanye album would come out without a comment from me?
You know youve set a high standard for yourself when “really good and entertaining album” feels slightly disappointing. Although Watch the Throne doesnt exactly break new ground, theres not a bad track on it and both men are definitely on their game lyrics-wise. (And the fact that Knaye more than holds his own against the so-called greatest rapper alive shouldnt go unmentioned). Maybe I wont return to this album in the future as much as I do Ye and Jay’s solo stuff, but songs like New Day and a few others, for my money, can stand against the best stuff either of them have ever done.
Ultimately though none of this matters because any album that contains the line “Got staples on my dick - why? - fuckin’ centerfolds” gets a gold star in my book. Game, set, and match Kanye.
