I think it says everything you need to know about David Letterman that tonight is the 30th anniversary of his being on late night and he has done not a single interview, special, or piece of promotion about it, and that even I, a huge fan, didn’t even know about the anniversary until this afternoon.
I was raised on Late Night, but I don’t think I’m being biased when I say that there’s probably no one more responsible for modern comedic sensibilities than David Letterman. As this even the first clip (posted above) from this terrific retrospective proves, much of what we think of as comedy today was indeed born 30 years ago this evening. So while I know it’s a little long to watch all the clips, but you really should. We’ll never see another David Letterman ever again.
